Alys Albers

This piece was created for Digital Graffiti, an art festival where artists project their original works onto the iconic white walls of Alys Beach, Florida. The piece follows Joseph Alber’s methodologies from such historical series as Variant / Adobe (1946–66) and his Homages to the Square (1950–76). A pictorial study was done of the architecture of Alys Beach via Google Earth and forms were selected, abstracted, and reduced into simple shapes using pencil and graph paper. Twelve remaining forms were created digitally and then algorithmically randomized to generate unique permutations of compositions or studies “exquisite corpse” style, with a color pallet inspired by Alber's work.
